PLC Visual Alma-Witness for Prosecution

3/11/2010
From the very beginning of the session, Visual Alma is effective at the campus under the auspices of PLC Study Circle Society. On 19th September, 2009 a very interesting addition in this segment was the movie "Witness for the Prosecution." The focal point of the movie was criminal law and law of evidence. It was thoroughly enjoyed and praised by the students and faculty.

The Great Debaters

Its steadfast humanity, its literacy, its passionate belief in education, its faith that history teaches invaluable lessons and its strong, emotionally grounded performances: There are enough things to admire about "The Great Debaters" the heavily fictionalized true story of The Little Debate Team That Could that your impulse is to forgive the movie its shortcomings.

Judgment at Nuremberg

It’s a True story dealing with the Nazi war crime trials of several members of the German judiciary. Here the focus is on two particular individuals, the judge (Spencer Tracey) who must render a final opinion and one particular defendant (Burt Lancaster), a well respected German scholar. The defendant, played by Burt Lancaster, must come to grips with the reality of his actions or inaction.

Witness for the Prosecution

Charles Laughton stars as barrister Sir Wilfrid Robarts in Billy Wilder's screen version of Agatha Christie's enormously successful stage adaptation of her original story. Although the ailing attorney has been advised by his doctors to cease and desist from the practice of law, his interest is piqued when solicitor Mayhew (Henry Daniell) asks him to take the case of murderer suspect Leonard Vole (Tyrone Power). After evidence that he stood to gain financially from the victim's death comes to light, the man is indicted. Robarts, nonetheless, agrees to defend Vole, convinced as he is of his innocence. But the case becomes even more of an uphill battle when the defendant's supposedly loving wife Christine (Marlene Dietrich) decides to testify as a witness for the prosecution.
